New construction
Below are some projects either in the works, waiting for a team to come start, or on the drawing board. If you and your team have a day or two to work, or would need an overnight stay while working on a project, please contact us to see if serving on the mission field of Cale Retreat would fit your schedule.

Prayer Garden
In 2008 we started building a prayer garden. This is located in a secluded area where groups can be free from distractions. We quickly saw a greater need for this area as we have outgrown the demands for its seating capacity. We have the funds, we have the design, but we need a team to come build benches and install them in the ground. Due to the uneven ground we would also need to build up the area using lumber and sand. This could be a one day job for a team of 4 or 5 men. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Nature Trail
More youth and adult groups are using our nature trails than ever before. Whether a walk during the day or night we need a safe trail free of holes and tripping points. We are also continually expanding and improving our trails. This often involves clearing dead fall, vines, and small trees with chainsaws. If your youth group or men's group would consider coming to help in this ongoing project it would be great! In the spring we also put wood shavings on part of our trail. Thanks for considering this construction job as a mission trip for your team. In the fall of 2009 we are planning to link our new conference building to our prayer garden by way of a walking bridge over some of our water area. This will involve building a sturdy bridge made of lumber with handrails accessible to wheelchairs. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

New camping lodge
Plans are on the drawing board now, and our hope is to begin a new dormitory style sleeping and meeting lodge early in 2009. We hope to have this building complete before June of 2009 for summer camp. Once we get the permits for this building, work teams will be needed throughout the winter and spring. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Pavilion Concrete Floor
Our picnic pavilion is almost complete. The next step is to find the funds to begin concreting the floor. This will be done in stages, and we have funds to begin at least part of the job. If your men's group would consider helping set up the forms and helping to pour part of the slab it would be greatly appreciated. We may only have the money to pour and finish 8-16 yards at a time, but with your team's help we can get this done before the BBQ Cook-off on April 4th and the start of summer camp. I could use 2-6 men for one day to prepare and pour this project. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

New Archery Cover
We are in the process of moving our archery range. We need a metal roof pole barn built on the new spot. We have the materials; we need a team who could come help construct this pole barn, complete with a slant roof and benches. The benches are already built and just need to be moved from our old archery range. This project could take 4-10 men and could take 2 to 4 days to complete accordingly. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Waterfront Chapel
Many groups love using our waterfront chapel area for devotions, singing, and baptisms. This area is just over a slight hill and some of our guests find this very difficult to maneuver with the dirt and sand they must traverse. Plans and lumber are in hand to build steps to lead to our chapel area to provide a safe pathway. This could take 4-6 men one or two days to complete. Call for more details and 252-264-2513!

Boat Ramp
The last storm took our canoe/boat launching ramp out for the 4th time in the past 6 years. We have the permits and lumber and all we are waiting for is either guys in insulated waders or warmer water to rebuild this ramp. We could use a team of 4-6 men for this project and it could take two, maybe three days to complete. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Archery Backstop Holders
We have the backstops and the designed skid to keep them from falling over. We need a team to come build 4 or 5 more of these skids to hold our archery targets. This could take 2 or 4 men one day to construct. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Low Ropes Course
Our low ropes course is a program where hundreds of youth learn team building techniques every year. In the spring of 2009 we plan to add another challenge to our course. We have the plans, we have the materials, we need a team to build and install this on the course located in the woods. It would take 2 or 4 men part of a day to complete this project. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Planting Trees
As are most maintenance areas, ours is quite unsightly. For that reason we are hoping to cover this area by planting a buffer of Leyland Cypress trees around the perimeter. Our plan would be to dig the holes with a tractor auger and plant a lot of 3-5 gallon size trees. It will not happen overnight, but with some love and care we hope to remove the unsightly maintenance area in a year or two. A ladies, men's, or careful youth group could do this project in one day. There are a good number of trees to plant. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Leaf Raking and burning
Cale is blessed with an abundance of trees. Each fall and spring we must remove these leaves. Most are raked with our tractor and pulled off sight. We still have areas where only a rake and some strong arms will get it done. If your youth, men's or ladies' group would consider helping in the project it would be greatly appreciated. We ask that groups bring leaf rakes when they come. Most teams could complete this job is 3 weeks, but a day of clean up would be a supper blessing just the same. Call for more details, 252-264-2513! Firewood-We need firewood cut for the groups who use Cale. We have the cut trees on the ground, but we need men with chainsaws to cut and split the wood. We have a tractor to move the logs and a log splitter with a lift; however, we would need the men who come to bring their own chainsaws. 4-6 men for one day would be needed for this project. Call for more details at 252-264-2513!

Basketball Court
A limb fell and bent one top fence bar; a whole tree fell on another part and wiped that area out. That tree also pushed a back board pole forward just a little. Bottom line, our basketball court area needs some help. The parts are here, but we need a team of men to reconstruct our fence area and straighten one of our goal post. A team of 4-6 men could take care of this job in one day. We have some, but it might be good to bring some tall ladders. We have new chain link fence on the ground and the ties to put it up with. Many youth enjoy our courts, and if your team could come and repair what we have they would enjoy it even more. Call for more details at 252-264-2513! If you are interested and able to take on one of these mission projects at Cale please call. We could certainly use the help. If your team is coming in from a distance away, Cale can supply lodging at no charge. We can discuss the meal set up as well. Cale is a mission field where God will bring hundreds of children, youth, and adults to hear His voice and to realize just who He is. From the boat ramp to the archery range projects, all work done at Cale is for Kingdom building advancement. Thanks for considering your options to be a part of this ministry.
